OBITUARY: Sherman 'Lee' Wilcox
Nov. 22, 1919-March 24, 2009

HERMISTON - Sherman "Lee" Wilcox, 89, of Hermiston died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston. A celebration of life service will be held at noon Saturday, March 28 at the Hermiston Christian Center, 1825 W. Highland Ave. Disposition was by cremation. Inurnment of cremains will be held at the Hermiston Cemetery.

Mr. Wilcox was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Goodland, Kan., to Lester Sherman and Myrtle "Fern" (Ingram) Wilcox. He was an eighth cousin to Princess Diana Spencer. He was raised in Kansas and moved to Medford at the age of 16. He worked in farming in Medford, Salem, Eugene, and all along the Interstate 5 corridor. In 1940 he married Evelyn Vanita Mays in Vancouver, Wash; they later divorced.

During World War II he worked for Boeing as a mechanic, building planes in Portland. He worked as a farmer most of his life and also sold cars. In 1968 he married Nola Irene Bakken in Portland, and they moved to Hermiston in 1971.

Mr. Wilcox is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nola Wilcox of Hermiston; son Ronald Lee Wilcox of Clackamas; daughters Linda Lou Thomas of Montgomery, Texas, Gloria Jean Dean of Centerville, Utah, Sarah Irene Dinwiddie of Lafayette and Ruth Lucille Klombang of Hermiston; brother Louis Wilcox of Independence, Mo.; sister Irene White of Orleans, Neb.; 21 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Fern Wilcox; stillborn daughter Rachel Elizabeth Wilcox; brother Paul Wilcox and infant brother Morris Eugene Wilcox; and sister Alice Nadine Brown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wilcox Family, 1492 E. Theater Lane, Hermiston, OR 97838, or to the Living Word Christian Center in Pendleton.
