Whitson Wade Baker was born on 7 March 1885 in Gonzales, Texas, to farmer James Alexander Baker and his wife, Laura Lee Squires. His mother died when he was seven years old and he was raised by his step-mother, Cassie Gunn Baker. Whitson married first Margaret Iman, in 1907 or 1908. They were divorced and he married second Verde Lott in 1925; they were also divorced. Whitson Baker died, 20 July 1932, aged 47, and was buried at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
