She was the daughter of Curtis Bolton of the firm of C. Bolton, Fox & Livingston and Ann Bolton.
On January 21, 1851, she married Barton S. Alexander at Calvary Church in New York, New York.
They were the parents of five children:
1) Louisa Frederica Alexander born December 5, 1851 at West Point. Married William Taylor M.D. of San Francisco on August 18, 1875 and had one daughter Frances Elizabeth Taylor born June 30, 1876. Married second Montgomery Scott Currey of San Francisco on October 12, 1882. He was born July 17, 1846, the son of Judge Currey. They were the parents of Julia Alexander Currey born March 24, 1888.
2) Bolton Alexander born May 5, 1853. He died at the residence of General Phineas Banning at Wilmington, a neighborhood in Los Angeles on September 25, 1872.
3) Anna North Alexander born September 13, 1854 who married Eustace Barron Rogers, USN on January 17, 1882. She died November 4, 1908 at the District of Columbia.
Per The Washington Times published Thursday, November 5, 1908, interment was in San Francisco.
4) Walter Stone Alexander born January 8, 1857, USMA Class of 1879. He married Fanny Lent, daughter of William M. Lent of California in August 1887.
5) Marion Alexander born February 4, 1860. She died in California on April 3, 1890.

Alexander. In this city, September 24, Sarah B., wife of General B.S. Alexander, United States Engineers, a native of New York, aged 56 years. Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend the funeral tomorrow (Sunday) at 2 o'clock PM, from No. 20, South Park, without further notice.
