Joseph F. Skoviera, 91, formerly of Endwell, N.Y., passed away Saturday evening, November 12, 2005, at Elizabeth Church Manor, Binghamton, N.Y. Joseph was born in Ironwood, Mich., on September 7, 1914, a son of the late John and Mary (Mazurek) Skoviera. His wife of 35 years predeceases him, Anna Mary (Shimo) Skoviera; along with his two sisters, Ann McDowell, Kathleen Pelshaw; three brothers, George, John and Michael Skoviera. Survivors include his daughter, Anna M. Kavulich and her husband, Ronald, Endwell, N.Y.; his sons, Joseph M. Skoviera, Marble Falls, Tex., Francis M. Skoviera and his wife, Mary Ellen of Tampa, Fla.; his daughter, Mary Novinger and her husband, Peter, Longmont, Colo.; his loving eight grandchildren, Kristen Riesenberger and her husband James, Gregory Kavulich, Julie Blauth and her husband, Chris, Aaron Skoviera, Jennifer Skoviera, Michael Skoviera, Annamarie Novinger and Christopher Novinger; five great-grandchildren, James and Braydan Riesenberger, Erin, Alex and Morgan Blauth; three brothers, Steve Skoviera, Ironwood, Mich., Andrew of Hurley, Wis., and Sam of Kimball, Wis.; sisters, Helen Smithson, Glenfora, Cailf. and Mary Lakin, Chicago, Ill. Joseph was a veteran of WWII, serving five years with the U.S. Army. He was also a member of Christ the King Church, Endwell, N.Y. He retired from E.H. Titchner, Binghamton, N.Y. after 31 years as a model maker for research and development. Joe was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed reading, cooking, woodworking and gardening. His family will dearly miss him.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 17, 2005, at 9:30 a.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., 300 East Main St., Endicott, and at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 1501 Davis Ave., Endwell, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions in Joseph's memory to the Hospice Unit at Lourdes Hospital, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905. The family wishes to thank caregivers at Elizabeth Church Manor and Lourdes Hospice.
