Funeral services for Horace L. Boyett, 70, prominent retired merchant who succumbed May 21, will be held at the First Baptist Church Friday, May 24, at 10 a.m. with the pastor, Dr. W. L. Holcomb, and the Rev. John Ingouf of Joyce officiating. Burial will follow in the Boyett Cemetery at Joyce under direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Masonic rites will be conducted at the graveside, with members of the Winnfield Masonic Lodge acting as pallbearers.

Mr. Boyett succumbed in a Winnfield hospital Tuesday morning following a stroke at his home Monday.

Mr. Boyett was a lifelong resident of Winn Parish, having been born nine miles east of Winnfield. He was engaged in the operation of cafes and groceries in Winn Parish for 40 years before his retirement three years ago because of ill health. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and of the Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ruth Boyett, Winnfield; two sons, C. J. Boyett, Houston, Texas, and H. L. Boyett, who is stationed with the Air Force in California; four daughters, Mrs. Jack Norwood and Mrs. Paul Brunson of Texas City, Texas, Mrs. Arthur Burns, Winnfield, and Mrs. James L. Hughes, Pineville; five grandchildren. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. C. M. Sanders and Mrs. Minerva McKaskle, both of Winnfield, and Mrs. D. F. Moore of Venice, Fla.
