Perlina was the second daughter of John Wesley Shelburne and Jane Goodwin(e). She married Tom Bennett Tichenor in 1880 and had two daughters, Odessa and Anne, and one son, Fred. She was an active and vivacious woman who enjoyed traveling and keeping in touch with her family. She especially enjoyed photography and kept a large number of photographs of herself and various family members.

She had a variety of nicknames, most common was "Lina" and later, "Mama Tich", in order to disguish herself from the other 'grannies'. Following the death of her husband in 1927, she lived with her daughters and died in Louisville, after an illness.
