Mary STEWARD

Mary Steward Wife, mother and entrepreneur, died after a long illness on September 24 at her home in Chadds Ford, PA. Mrs. Steward was best known in the community as the original owner and guiding spirit of Stewards Pet Resort. From October, 5, 1979 until illness forced her to retire, she spearheaded a virtual revolution in pet care in the Delaware Valley area. From opening day until the business was sold by the family in January 1998, she maintained an unparalleled reputation for the highest standards in genuinely personalized pet care. Her integrity and unflagging dedication to the well being of the animals in her care earned her the respect and gratitude of thousands of area pet owners.

Before opening Steward Kennels, Mrs. Steward worked for many years as Director of Admissions at the College of General Studies, University of Pennsylvania where she also completed her BA in the Humanities. She was an avid reader and writer and had published several articles and a short story before turning her attention to business.
