She also served four years as church hostess and traveled throughout the county with a quartet from First Baptist singing at funerals for churches without choirs.
Mrs. Jarrett entertained extensively throughout North Carolina with her accordion and singing and provided accordion lessons to a number of local musicians.
Professional experiences for Mary Sue began in the late 1930s as administrator of the WPA of new school lunch programs in five counties, initiating 17 school lunchrooms and supervising 300 WPA workers. For 22 years, Mary Sue was local executive director of the American Lung Association covering five counties. After retiring, she taught public speaking and communications at Cleveland Community College.
Mary Sue has been active in and president of several local, state, and one national organization. The local include the American Legion Auxiliary, the Business and Professional Womens Club, UDC, Cecilia Music Club and the Mothers Club.
