Edgar S. "Jack" Harpine, 77, of Harrisonburg, died Wednesday afternoon at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Harpine was born September 23, 1901 in Shenandoah County and was a son of the late David H. and Bertie Mae Armentrout Harpine.

He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, where he held numerous offices, was a member of the Wilt Bible Class and served as an usher for 20 years. He was also a charter member of Fire Co. No. 1.

Mr. Harpine was a partner in the firm of Wilbarger and Harpine Machine Shop for 30 years until 1952. From 1952 to 1973 he was chief engineer for the Valley Virginia Milk Producers.

On September 23, 1922, he married the former Ruth Wilbarger, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, L. Rex Harpine, of Harrisonburg, six sisters, Evelyn Randolph, of Mount Crawford, Marie Wamek, of Charlotte, N.C., Avis Rhodes, Freda Mae Lineweaver, Doris Trobaugh and Charlotte Moyers, all of Harrisonburg, three brothers, Harold S. Harpine, of Newport News, David Henry Harpine Jr., of Caribou, Maine, and Mark C. Harpine, of Harrisonburg, two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday, burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
