George was the son of Charles William and Rosa Mae (Merritt) Simmons. He was the husband of Barbara Jean (Bailey) Simmons. He was the husband of Marlene Ruth (Williams)(Fecht) Simmons. He was the father of Curtis Wayne Simmons and Karen Lynn (Simmons) Wagner. He was the brother of Opal Alene (Simmons) Steele, Robert Junior Simmons, Ruby Esty (Simmons) Harris, Nellie Louise Simmons, and Bernard Everhardt Simmons.

George L. Simmons, age 79, of Sandwich, IL passed away on Monday, March 16, 2009 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL. He was born on December 2, 1929 in New Haven, IL the son of Charles and Rosa (Merritt) Simmons.

George was united in marriage in February of 1950 to the former Barbara Bailey and spent many happy years together until her passing in 1982. He was then united in marriage in September of 1983 to the former Marlene Williams Fecht and they have spent 25 happy years together.

George was employed for many years as a Supervisor in the Tooling Dept. of Caterpillar, Inc. in Montgomery, IL. He was a very active life-time member of the Oswego Masonic Lodge #303 where he had been a member for over 50 years. Mr. Simmons was a former President of the Aurora Kickers Soccer Club, in Aurora, IL, as well as, a longtime member of the Sandwich Moose Lodge, in Sandwich, IL. George was a loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene Simmons of Sandwich, IL; his children, Curtis W. Simmons of Sandwich, IL and Karen (Pat) Wagner of Red Lake, Ontario, Canada; his step-children, Jean (Gerald) Fisher of Sandwich, IL, Daniel (Pam) Fecht of Naperville, IL, Joann (Jake) O'Malley of Elizabeth, CO and Robert Fecht of Rochelle, IL; his 16 grandchildren; and his five great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rosa Simmons; his wife, Barbara Simmons; and his five siblings.
