He was the son of Henry Clyde and Essie Lee Christian Walkup. He spent his early years in Salt Prairie where he attended school. After a brief tour in the United States Navy in 1942, he moved to Savanna and worked for the Brown-Bellows Construction Company of Houston, which was surveying and constructing the Naval Ammunition Depot. After construction, he was employed at the Naval Ammunition Depot for 37 years and retired in 1981 as leadingman in the ordnance department. He married Lenore Faye Harbin on Dec. 22, 1945, in Coalgate, and raised two daughters at their home in Savanna, where he spent the remainder of his life. He attended the World Wide Church of God in Ada, and enjoyed traveling, studying history and working on his ranch. Survivors include his wife, Lenore Walkup, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Dubbie Joe Graham, of Savanna, and Darlene and Stuart Rising, of Savanna; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Bob Jones, of McAlester; a brother, Robert Walkup, of Coalgate. Also, grandchildren, Tracy Graham, of Tulsa, Todd Graham and wife, Krystal, of Shawnee, Tyler Graham and wife, Lori, of Coweta, and Crystal Reeves, of Oklahoma City. And, great-grandchildren, Austin Graham, of Savanna, Zackary Graham, of Coweta, Nickolas Graham, of Coweta, and Kolby Aitken, of Oklahoma City, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Essie Walkup; two sisters, Janice Meeks and Bertie Lou Tinker; a brother, Joe Walkup; two nephews, Darrell Stonecipher and Edward Cameron; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Walkup, and two brothers-in-law, Bob Tinker and Billy Meeks.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bishop Chapel of Memories. Burial will be at Savanna Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
