George and Augusta lived near Ore Spring. He was a farmer, studied law and was a magistrate of the 6th District. He was a member of New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Augusta was a member of Thompson Creek Baptist Church. George believed that every child deserved a good education. He gave land for the building of Central High School and was instrumental in consolidating Eagle Hill, Jolly Springs, and Olivet Elementary Schools into Central High School. At the dedication of the school in 1913, he wrote a prayer, which was placed in the cornerstone of Central High. Four of his children and five grandchildren attended Central High School.
He was an avid reader and writer, enjoyed people, loved to joke, enjoyed his family and instilled Christian character in his children. Augusta was a fun loving Christian mother whom her children loved, respected, and were devoted. Their home was the center of fun and parties.
George W was one of the original stockholders in the Gleason Bank. He was chairman of the first bank meeting held upon delivery of the bank charter in 1901, and on the first board of directors. Grandchildren and greatgrandchildren still own stock in the Gleason Bank.
