Burns Fatal to Aged Lady
Mrs. Mary Shortridge Succumbs at Cass County Hospital Last Night
Complications following severe burns suffered to her face, arms and neck when she fell on to a stove while preparing the morning meal last Saturday, proved fatal to Mrs. Mary Shortridge, 74. She died at 8 o'clock last night at the Cass county hospital where she had been in a coma since Sunday.
Mrs. Shortridge is believed to have suffered an attack of illness causing her to fall, for she remained helpless on the stove until her screams attracted the attention of her son, Earl, who resided with her.
At first it was believed the burns were not critical but the shock caused Mrs. Shortridge's condition to become serious and then critical.
Surviving beside her son are a daughter, Mrs. Altha Widner, and several nieces and nephews. The Shortridge home is at 611 West Linden avenue.
Funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First Evangelical church with the Rev. Logan Weaver officiating and burial will be made in Mt. Hope cemetery. The body will be at Chase and Miller chapel where friends may call.
