Mr. Friend was born in Missouri to William and Margret Friend.
He spent his childhood in Missouri until moving with his family to Klamath Falls and graduating from high school there.
He later was drafted and served four years in the Army.
Mr. Friend then became employed by Weyerhaeuser Co. and worked as a turbine operator in the firm's power plant for 44 years, retiring in 1985.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Cathy Friend, Klamath Falls; sister-in-law, Kathleen Friend, Baker; granddaughter, Eva Friend, Monmouth; numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation was held.
