Rose was born Feb.16,1907 in Winfield Kansas., where she attended school and then worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company until Aug.30,1931. She was transferred to Ashland Kansas, where she met and married Merle Heaton.
Mrs. Heaton was baptized in the Glenwood Springs pool in Glenwood Springs.
In 1940, the Heaton's moved to Minturn, where they lived until Mr. Heaton died Aug.15,1960, at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. Mrs. Heaton was chief telephone operator at Penrose Hospital from August 1958 to 1976.
On April 6,1978, she moved to the Myron Stratton Home and lived there for 20 years. In 1999 she went to Captain Cook, Hawaii to live with her granddaughter, In 2001 she returned to Colorado and has lived at the Progressive Care Center in Canon City.
She is survived by one daughter, three granddaughters, and one great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents,husband, and two half sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 20,2005, at Swan Law Cascade Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Private burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sangre de Cristo Hospice and Palliative Care.
