Dec 2, 1949 – Robert H. Benbrook Dies Friday at Home Near Wideman
Robert H. Benbrook, one of the county's oldest and most highly respected citizens, died at his home near Wideman, Friday afternoon, November 25, 1949. He had been in failing health for several months.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Conner, pastor of the Methodist Church at Viola were held at Corinth Church, Sunday afternoon. Burial was in Corinth Cemetery, with the Roller-Barber Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
Mr Benbrook was 85 years of age. He was born June 18, 1864 on Piney Creek, some three miles east of Calico Rock. All of his life was spent in the vicinity of his birth and in the vicinity of his home at the time of his death. He was married to Mary Kidwell, October 3, 1883. He was a resident of the Wideman locality for more than 65 years. During his active years he was a leader in the community affairs and was the champion of things meant for community betterment. He was widely known in this part of the county and enjoyed the friendship of a large circle of intimate acquaintances.
Surviving, are his wife; one daughter, Miss Margaret Benbrook of Wideman; two sons, Uen Benbrook of Oxford and Ewell Benbrook of Wideman; one daughter Mrs Ethel Claiborne, died in 1949 and a son, Ullman died while serving with the Armed Forces during World War I in 1918. One other child died in infancy. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; a half brother, A. H. Benbrook of Fairfield, Texas and two half sisters, Mrs Dora Jones and Miss Alice Benbrook of Wideman.
