Fleming Mize was the son of James & Martha Ingram Mize, married Harriet Briggs on 7 feb 1841 in Lebanon, Van Buren Co., IA. They had 8 children - Harriett E. (McCullough, Fleming D. Thomas J, Franklin B., Edgar J., Emma A., James A., and Albert W.

Davis County History
One of the earliest pioneers in Davis co., Iowa, was Fleming Mize who was very prominent in its matters of public interest, towit; He was the first man to obtain a marriage license in this county; he served on the first jury; he was largely instrumental in organizing a unit of militia for the frontier conditions; he was comissioned a second lieutenant in the Union Army; and he was a key promoter in establishing the old Troy Aademy, an outstanding place of learning in its day.
