Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, with Rev. Mark Stuckey officiating. Burial will follow at the Delavan Cemetery, Delavan, Kansas. Friends may call Tuesday from 2:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, and Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until time of services.
Mrs. Yakle attended Emporia State University and taught school for a few years before she married Alfred Yakle. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wilsey, Kansas. Bernice dedicated her life to meeting the needs of others. She was a sewing leader for many local 4-H children. She shared her love of gardening with her husband, Alfred, as members of the Hoe and Hope Garden Club.
She married Alfred Yakle April 22, 1936, at Delavan, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1993. She is survived by one sister; Eva Wiggans of Delavan, Kansas, several nieces and nephews, and a cousin; Milan Harkness of Delavan, Kansas.
The family requests memorials to Wilsey United Methodist Church or Lutheran Home of Herington, Kansas.
