Jane Agar was the daughter of John Agar and Hannah Sanderson. She was born in Danby-in-Cleveland in the County Yorkshire, England. Her family has many records in the Danby-in-Cleveland Parish records. These can be seen on ancestry.com.
Her family came to Canada in about the year 1830. They lived in the Hope Twp. area of durham Co., Ontario. Here Jane married Benjamin Scaman on Jan. 11th, 1844. They settled in Raleigh Twp. in Kent Co., Ontario.
The Will of John Agar the Elder, Township of Hope in the County of Durham:
"...Second. I give to my daughter Jane Scamen, widow of the late Benjamin Scamen eight-hundred dollars. The same to be paid within three months of my death..."
Her husband, Benjamin, died on Aug. 25th, 1864 in Raleigh Twp.
Later Jane moved to Blenheim Twp. where she died in 1895.
