Casandra Clark was born on 6 February 1831 in Arkansas to Gilbert and Mary Ann Ward Clark. She was called Cassie. She grew up in Red River County where her uncle, James Clark, establised the town of Clarksville. Her father was a minister and built the first couthouse in the new town. The family later moved on to Hopkins County, Texas.

Casandra Clark married James Perry Hargrave on 28 September 1848 in Hopkins County. They had four sons named William G., John Carr, Charles Jasper, and James Elliot Hargrave. The family lived at Sulphur Bluff and had a store selling general merchandise.

Casandra Clark Hargrave died on 29 December 1912 in Hopkins County. She was buried beside her husband in the Nelta Cemetery.
