She grew up in Red River County where her uncle, James Clark, establised the town of Clarksville. Her father was a minister and built the first couthouse in the new town. The family later moved on to Hopkins County, Texas.
Casandra Clark married James Perry Hargrave on 28 September 1848 in Hopkins County. They had four sons named William G., John Carr, Charles Jasper, and James Elliot Hargrave. The family lived at Sulphur Bluff and had a store selling general merchandise.
