Ralph Webster was born about 1799 in Tyringham in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. It appears that his father, Daniel Webster died young (aged 32) in 1802, and that his widow and children, including Ralph, moved with one of his brothers to Monroe County, N.Y. shortly afterwards.
Dr. Colby (Anna's second husband) also died relatively young (aged 42) in 1816, leaving Anna again widowed, this time with a combined family of at least 12 children. Ralph, who was about 17 at this time, may have been boarded out or apprenticed with one of his uncles. At any rate, he somehow learned the trade of masonry, which was his occupation the rest of his life. A city directory for Rochester, N.Y. around 1830 shows him living at Number 3 Lynch Street, and his occupation is given as "mason."

Ralph and Mehitable were married before a Methodist minister in Rochester, NY

According to 1830 U S Fed. Census the family was in NY Monroe Co. Township Rochester Ward 2, Cass Co., Michigan in 1840, and Rockford, IL in 1850, 1860 they were in Postville, Allamakee Co., IA. By the 1870 census, Ralph and Mehitabel are living with a son, Filmore Gleason Webster, near Charles City, Floyd Co., Iowa, where she died in 1878 and he in 1880.
