Mark O. Curd was born about 1868, the third of three children for Daniel and Amanda A. (Perkins) Curd. The family lived in Charleston, Illinois.

Mark married Augusta O. Colbert 29 Nov 1887 in Chicago, Illinois. They had four children, Hazel Fay Curd, Alfred Daniel Curd, Joseph Edward Curd, and Ethel Vitula Curd.

According to the below obit, Mark Curd came down with a stomach illness immediately after his wife Augusta returned home after cutting a two week trip short after only two days away from home. She stayed by his side through his illness, and it was unexpected that Mark would pass away from this illness. Four months after Mark's death, Augusta was pregnant with Charles Young's child. Is this the act of a bereft wife? I think not. Two years later, in the 1900 census, Augusta tells the census taker she has only given birth to one child, her child with Charles Young. What about her four children she had with Mark Curd??? They are not living with Augusta and Charles, though the oldest is only ten years old. She has cast them aside and forgotten about them. Was Augusta responsible for Mark Curd's death? Was she so anxious to be with Charles Young that she poisoned her husband?

*A huge thank you to Donna Stewart for posting Mark's obit. It is full of interesting information, but please note the marriage year in the obit is incorrect. I have not been able to find a good source for Mark's birth date, so I am using the date in the obit, but it may not be accurate.

Mark Curd Dead
Passed Away Last Night After A Couple Days Illness

Mark Curd died last night shortly before 10 o'clock after an illness lasting only about two days. The trouble was with his stomach and it was not thought that it would proved fatal. His death was quite a shock to his wife and children, being so unexpected.

Mrs. Curd and children went to Casey to visit relatives the first of the week, but on Wednesday decided to come home, though they had intended to remain there at least two weeks. It seems providential that they did return, for the husband and father was taken ill the day they came back, and they were thus permitted to be by his side during his sickness, and to the last.

The deceased was born in this city on December 26, 1868, and was married Nov 29th, 1886. The result of this union was four children; Hazel, Alfred, Joe, Ethel. To the wife and children is accorded the sympathy of the community. Mr. Curd also leaves a sister, Mrs. J. W. Harrington, Chicago, and a brother, Omer, who resides in Oshkosh, Wis.

The funeral services were held at his late home, Fourth and Van Buren, this afternoon at 4 o'clock. The remains were ?? in Mound Cemetery. Services conducted by Rev. Burnham.
