Death of Mrs. Elijah Strader Brings Sorrow to Many Old Friends and Neighbors.
(Mrs. Amos Dening, Correspondent.)
Quite a number from here attended the funeral of Mrs. Elijah Strader at Lowville last Monday. Marion Davis who spent her two week's vacation at her home here, has returned to her school at Lowville.
Last Friday, January 2, our hearts were made sad when the word passed over the line that Mrs. Elijah Strader had passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. D. Failling at Lowville. Although in failing health, death came as a shock to all. In the passing of Mrs. Strader the church sustains a severe blow, as her aim and object in life was to build up God's cause and kingdom here on earth. The community loses a loving and loyal friend and neighbor, in her striving at all times to extend a helping hand whenever opportunity afforded. A beautiful life has passed on to its reward. Our hearts go out in loving sympathy to the bereaved companion so feeble now to be left to travel life's pathway alone here below, but we are so glad he is leaning on "the everlasting arm" that will guide him along the uneven pathway of life. Mrs. Slater was 82 years old, and they had been married 54 years January 1. Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. P. D. Falling, with whom she resided, and one son, Leland Strader, who have the sympathy of all in their sorrow. The funeral was held on Monday at 1 o'clock from the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. D. Falling, when a large concourse of friends and neighbors gathered to pay the last tribute of respect to one they had known and loved in many years passed by. Rev. E. D. Ridgeway, president of Onondaga Conference, and her former pastor, assisted by Dr. S. W. Brown, of the First M. E. church, Lowville, conducted the services. Rev. E. D. Ridgeway used as the foundation for his remarks three classes, Enter into life; Asleep in Jesus; Forever with the Lord, which alone in themselves are strong sermon of the life passed away. Mrs. Webster Gordon presided at the organ, while B. J. Goutremont and Mrs. Wesley Millard sang some of her favorite hymns, Asleep in Jesus, Jesus Saviour Pilot Me. The flowers were beautiful; one floral design "gates ajar," from the church and Ladies Aid here, also many other beautiful pieces from loving friends and neighbors. The bearers were Webster Gordon, Ervin Bellinger, Amby Archer, Millan Taylor, Amos Dening, Edward Graves. The remains were placed in the receiving vault at Lowville.
