OBITUARY

MARTHA A. BROWN HOLBERT

Martha A. daughter of William and Malona (Adams) Brown, was born October 16, 1859, at the old homestead and was one of the family of six children--Sarah J., wife of Samuel Spencer of Grimes, okla; George W. of Chicago, who is in the railway mail service; Harriet I., wife of Samuel Holbert, "deceased"; Julia E., wife of Wesley Reeder, and May, wife of Lawrence Gray, both of Terre Haute.
She was united in marriage to John W. Holbert on April 17, 1881. This union was blessed with 6 children, 4 sons and 2 daughters--Bessie, wife of Arthur Stalker, William R., Glenn B., Pearl, wife of Arley Stalker, Harry M. and Oscar R.
At the age of 14 she embraced religion and united with the Methodist church at Mt. Olivet and remained faithful until death, her sickness being of about six weeks duration and she bore it with fortitude and resignation, quoting passage after passage of scripture even until the last. Her end was peace. She departed this life Oct. 23, 1910, age 51 years, 7 days. Besides her immediate family she has many friends to mourn her loss. Her children will rise up to call her blessed.
Her funeral was conducted at Mt. Olivet Tuesday, Oct. 25, 1910, by Rev. William Torr of Perrysville.
