OBITUARY

"Wm. Brown"

William Brown was born January 10, 1826, in Butler County, Ohio. He moved with his parents to Parke County, Indiana, when but 14 years of age, when his county was nothing but a wilderness, settling on the farm where he has since resided, about two miles northwest of Catlin.
In April, 1854, he was married to Malona Adams, by whom he had four children--one son and three daughters. His wife died September 2, 1867. In September, 1869, he was again married to Sarah A. Hopper, by this marriage, he had two daughters. His children were all around his beside when he quietly passed away, except Miss Julia Reeder of Terre Haute, and Sarah Spencer of Arkansas, the latter not being able to be present at the funeral.
About the year 1850, he gave his heart to God and joined the M. E. Church at the camp meeting held on Mr. White's farm, about two miles north of Catlin, and remained a faithful member till he was called by the ranks of the church triumph. When the end came, although seemingly unconscious, yet sustained a peace and hope by the grace of Christ till Sabbath evening November 27, 1892, he entered into his eternal rest. Gone home to die no more. His age was 66 years, 10 months.
He leaves a widow, six children, one brother and three sisters to sorrow in hope of a happy and eternal union in the better land. The funeral was conducted by Revs. Torr and Beal and lacked no element of consolation. Rev. Torr's text was Job xvii 22 and his words the church and the family were prompted by the Spirit after the choir had sung "Asleep In Jesus" and a last look at his placid pastures had been taken, his body was placed in the Mt. Olivet cemetery to sleep until the trumpet of God shall take him in the last day.
