NEWSPAPER OBITUARY - July 31, 1913 Eastern Utah Advocate - Lies Down On Tracks To Sleep, Is Killed - The body of Ellsworth Woodruff, of Vernal was found lying on the right of way of the Oregon Short Line north of Cacho Junction Monday morning at 3:30 o'clock. He had been struck and killed by the Butte and Portland express, which left Salt Lake shortly before midnight. Ellsworth and his brother Asahel had been walking on the tracks, having been in Idaho. Becoming tired, the pair laid down near the right of way to sleep. Ellsworth was laying on the track fast asleep, it is believed, when the train struck him. His body was mangled and death is thought to have been instantaneous. The body, accompanied by the brother, arrived in Salt Lake Monday afternoon.
