Ethel Attended grade school in Manning, South Carolina. She was baptized at Goodwill Baptist Church in Manning, South Carolina. At a young age, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Richmond Wells Sr. Of this marriage, twelve children were born. In 1950, Ethel, Richmond and their children moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, where they lived for many years.
In Wilmington, Ethel became a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. She was a member of the Senior Choir and was responsible for bringing many singing groups from Manning, South Carolina to Wilmington.
In 1973, because of declining health and a desire to be closer to her children, Ethel decided to move once more, this time to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1975, she joined Second Macedonia Baptist Church. On Thursday, April 6, 1989, Ethel answered the Master's call and slipped from labor to reward.
Ethel was a strong and determined person. It was poor health that held her back. Ethel was a sharing person, from food to shelter she was willing to share.
Ethel being the mother of so many children was blessed each child's home was another shelter in any storm. Because of her strength the family always came together to enjoy happy times. Although she was the mother of twelve, she always had room for more.
Though today seems cloudy, remember there is always a beautiful calm after every one of God's storms. We loved her but God loved her best. She may be gone but she will never be forgotten. Beautiful memories of our loved one will live in our hearts and minds forever.
She leaves to mourn: her husband, Mr. Richmond Wells Sr., ten children, Mr. Wesley Blackwell of Wilmington, North Carolina, Mrs. Dorothy Williams, Mr. Samuel Wells of New York, Mr. Willie Wells, Mrs. Bessie King, Mary Ann Wells, Mrs. Loretta Jones, Mr. Gilbert Wells, Mrs. Lila Staples, and Mrs. Purnice Johnson; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Severance and Luticia Gary; three daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, three brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, fifty-three grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, twenty nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
