Richmond was born June 20, 1913 in Clarendon County, South Carolina. He was the son of the late January and Carrie Lawyer Wells.
Richmond was raised in a christian home.
He attended school in Manning South Carolina.
At an early age he met the late Ethel Mae Riggins and they were married, of this union twelve children were born.
The family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina in 1950.
He returned to South Carolina until he moved to Philadelphia to be with his family.
For many years he lived with his daughter, Bessie King, where he remained until his death.
He was eighty-nine years of age. He was a gentleman, very loving, kind, and a strong independent person.
Richmond would take time to visit all the members of his family.
He always brought something with him, especially peanuts and pepsi colas.
At Christmas time he had cards and gave everyone a few dollars.
He was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1990 and still he did as much for himself as his health would allow.
Although we loved him and will miss him, God loved him more and the scripture says for those who die in Christ, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Beautiful memories of our loved one will be in our hearts always.
Five of his children preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Willie and Lawrence; five daughters, Bessie, MaryAnn, Loretta, Lila and Sylvia; sixty-two grands; eighty-eight great-grandchildren; and thirty-one great-great grandchildren; one sister, Reathe Thames who is one hundred years old; two daughters-in-law; two sisters-in-law, Agnes Severance and Luticia Gary; and a host of other relatives and friends.
