PRESTON RANEY
The Gaines neighborhood was shocked when news came over the phone the morning of the 29th, that Mr. Raney had been found in bed dead with heart disease.

Mr. Raney was one of our oldest settlers. He would have been 73 years old if he had lived until his next birthday. Mr. Raney was married twice, marrying sister. To his first marriage one daughter was born - Mrs. Delia Bedsoe, who died three years ago at Dillon, Montana. To his last marriage two children were born, Leota and Raymond. Leota died five years ago and left two children, who lived with Mr. Raney and wife. These little boys sure will miss their grandfather's love and care for he was the companion in every way.

Besides his wife and son, he leaves to mourn his death, several grandchildren, two brothers, one half brother, one sister and one half sister. One brother, Lay, lived at Calhoun; one brother, Bud, at Tightwad; one half brother, at Nevada; one sister, Mrs. John Snyder, at Lowry City, and Mrs. Johnson, somewhere in the southwest.

His remains were laid to rest in the Good Hope cemetery. Brother Billy Briggs, his life time friend, said the last words over his old friend and neighbor.
