88-Year Old Etna Pioneer Dies At Salt Lake City
David Ephraim Roberts, 88, early Star Valley pioneer and a former Etna resident, died at Salt Lake City Wednesday morning about 9:20 a.m. relatives here learned. Mr Roberts lived in Etna for many years, and operated a store where until just a few years ago when his health worsened and he moved to Utah to live with members of his family.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m. at the Etna Ward Chapel under the direction of Bp. Clyde E. Wolfley. Visitors may call at the home of a son C.S. Roberts in Etna Friday evening and Saturday until 12:30 p.m.

Services Held for David E. Roberts
David Ephriam Roberts, 88, died of causes incident to old age at Kearns, Utah Feb. 26, 1958. Funeral services were held in the Etna Ward LDS Chapel March 1 conducted by Bp. Clyde Wolfley.
Mr Roberts was born in a dirt roof house in Bloomington, Idaho, April 3, 1869 to William and Jannett Jones Roberts. His mother died while he was yet a baby and he was raised by his uncle David Roberts.
He spent his boyhood days in Bloomington. He was a stranger to shoes and warm clothing.
As a young man he married Mary Jane Briscoe in the Logan LDS Temple. They made their home in Kemmerer, Wyo. where he and his brother Charlie ran a produce business until his wife passed away leaving him two small boys to care for. He then moved to Bear Lake buying and selling produce and shipping to his brother in Kemmerer. He also owned a large ranch, stocked with white face cattle.
He married Hermoine Hart Feb 11, 1911 in Logan. She died the same year.
He filled a two-year mission to Great Britain for the LDS Church.
When he returned home he came to Star Valley and built the first mercantile business at Etna.
He married viola Jane Gardner in the Salt Lake LDS Temple May 27, 1920/ She died Jan 1, 1958.
Survivors include six sons, C. Sylvester Roberts Etna; Lorin Roberts Afton; David G. Roberts Holliday, Utah; Dee G. Roberts, R. Dean Roberts and Delaine Roberts Salt Lake City; two daughters Mrs Wallace Trottier (Adell) Kearns, Utah; and Mrs LeGrande Hobbs (Deona) Ames, Iowa; a sister, Mrs Lydia Loveland, Portland Ore.; 25 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Two sons one daughter and three grandchildren preceded him in death.
Burial was in the Etna Cemetery.
