Sylvester Roberts Dies at Etna
C. Sylvester Roberts, 62, died at his home in Etna Wednesday, April 23 after a long illness. He was involved in an accident about a year ago, and never fully recovered.
Funeral services have been announced by the Etna Ward Bishopric to be held Saturday, April 26 at 1 p.m. in the Etna Ward Chapel
Services Held for Sylvester Roberts
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 26 at the Etna Ward Chapel for Charles Sylvester Roberts, 62, who died at his home in Etna Wednesday of last week after a long illness. Counselor Rex D. Ivie conducted. Burial was in the Etna Cemetery.
He was born Aug 27, 1895 at Bloomington, Idaho, the son of David Ephraim and Mary Jane Briscoe Roberts.'
His mother died when he was four years old, leaving his father to care for him and his tiny brother Lorin. Part of his childhood days were sent with his mother's sister and the Hulmes family at Bloomington, Idaho.
When his father left for England for his mission he came to Star Valley and made his home with his Uncle Charlie and Aunt Leah Roberts. Later when his father built a store, Sylvester wnet into the trucking business.
He was married about this time to Margaret Vera Hawkins Williams who had two little girls by a previous marriage. In 1925 they had the misfortune of losing their four children, Lillian, Fae, Junior and Lynn in a fire which destroyed their home.
Five years later Lewis was born then Merrill and Bob to brighten their home. Three grandchildren, Steven Lewis, Sheree Louise and Scott C. have also come to bless their home.
The last 30 years they spent on their farm in Etna. Sylvester spent the last three months in Salt Lake City under a doctor's care.Last winter he and his wife spent most of the winter in California with Bob where he had employment. It was there he was involved in a car accident, and since that time his health has been failing. He suffered untold misery, yet was always happy and never complained. He was always thoughtful of others even though he wasn't one to go out much. he was always happy and made every effort for his family to attend their church duties. He had many friends and was loved by all.
His father, D.E. Roberts passed away at the age of 88, Feb 26, 1958.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Vera Hawkins Roberts; three sons; Lewis David, Merrill H. and Robert H.; five brothers Lorin, Afton; David, Dee, Dean Salt Lake City, and Delaine, Etna; two sisters Mrs Wallace (Adell) Trottier, Salt Lake City, and Mrs LaGrande (Deona) Hobbs, Ames Iowa. and three grandchildren. Two sons and two stepsisters preceded him in death.
Friends and relatives from out of town who attended the funeral included;
