Lena A, daughter of Merritt S and Margaret J Brown was born near Webster, Iowa on April 18, 1866. The greater part of her life has been spent in and near North English. She was the eldest a family of three children. She had two brothers, who died in infancy. She also had five half sisters and one half brother who are Mrs. Mary Nute; Mrs. Elsie Hall; Carrie; Mrs. Avo McMillan; Muade and Norval; all of whom live in Oregon and Wyoming. She was married February 17, 1887 to Jacob O Doll and to them two daughters were born. Edna and Lottie, both of whom are deceased. Mr. Doll died on July 17, 1891. On October 16, 1892 she was married to George Franklin Marshall and to them four children were born. They are: Mrs. Ada Hanchett of North English, Mrs. Hazel Jones of Webster, Rand F who died in infancy, and Mrs. Etta Helen Clubb of Webster. Besides the relatives mentioned above she leaves eight grandchildren and many other relatives and friends to mourn their loss. She had been in ill health for over a year and was taken to the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines where she remained until her death relieved of her affliction on February 12, 1924. When a young girl, she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church with which connection she always kept. She was also a member of the Rebekah lodge No. 355 Iowa and of the ladies of the G A R Kirby Circle No. 31 both of North English. She was of a very helpful and cheerful disposition, one faithful in the discharge of her religious duties, a loving mother, a true wife and friend. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon February 15, 1924, at the Methodist Church conducted by the pastors Leeds and Wilson and at the close of the sermon the Rebekahs held their service. There was a large delegation of them present. Burial was in the North English Cemetery.
