Nelson Dolph died at his home Saturday afternoon after an illness of a few weeks due to the infirmities of old age. The funeral service was held at the late home Monday at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Rev. Todd and interment was made in Green Hill cemetery by Undertaker Emerson. The deceased was 79 years and 19 days old and since 1834 had been a resident of this community, spending the past three years in Johnstown. He was an industrious man, a useful citizen and had hosts of friends who mourn his death.

Nelson Dolph was born in Ithica, New York, October 13, 1823, and died in Johnstown, Ohio November 1, 1902, aged 79 years and 18 days. His Parents Simon Dolph and Elizabeth Gardner were married in Thompkins County, N.Y in 1796, removing to Ohio and settling within sight of Johnstown October, 1834. They had a family of thirteen children, nine sons and four daughters, all living to a mature age, the youngest being the deceased Nelson Dolph. Of this large family, all have entered eternal rest except Charlotte Dolph who now in her 83rd year, living a short distance from Johnstown, patiently awaits the summons. On March 10, 1859 Nelson Dolph was united marriage to Margaret Fulk. To them were born six children, Jacob L., Lullella F. and Willie, dying in infancy. Frank died February 15, 1892, aged 25 years, Rosa B. Clark dying August 16, 1902 aged 38 years, leaving a husband and one child. While Mary E., the second who married Noah cheek, of this family alone survives and together with the faithful wife and three grandchildren are today left to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father and grandfather. Nelson Dolph for sixty five years, living within a mile of Johnstown. About three years ago, feeling he could no longer follow his life's vocation, farming, he removed to this village, where he has since resided (approx.1899) During his long and busy life he has been a useful citizen; not caring for the jostle and hurry of the world; choosing rather to quietly enjoy his home and loved ones. He was most zealous in caring for his family; a good neighbor, a useful citizen and an honorable man meeting the vicissitudes of life manfully, and at its close having the consolation of a well spent life.
