Howard Martin Vaughn Sr., 88, of Tiptonville, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.

He was a farmer, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in Europe, a member of First United Methodist Church in Tiptonville for more than 70 years, a 32nd-degree Mason and Shriner, a Tiptonville alderman for 14 years, Lake County magistrate for 10 years, a member of First State Bank's board of directors for 22 years, a member of the Lake County Levee Board, and owned and operated J.E. Vaughn Lumber Co. for 35 years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Tiptonville with the Rev. John Archer, the Rev. Steve Carr and the Rev. Marita Burkeen officiating. Burial will be in Tiptonville City Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at 5:30 p.m. today at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Trim Vaughn of Tiptonville; a daughter, Mona Sandusky and husband, Cooper, of Germantown; a son, Marty Vaughn and wife, Debra, of Tiptonville; six grandchildren, Robert Vaughn, Laura Turner and husband, Tim, Jennifer Sandusky, Kelli Sandusky, Christine Sandusky and Cooper Sandusky; and a great-grandchild, George Robert Vaughn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edmond and Ruth Hall Vaughn Sr.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Hearn, Wick Hearn, Albert Markham, Gene Lee, Jerry Don Yates, Jack Haynes Jr., Skipper Homra, David Perkins, Darrel Reynolds and James Baltezor. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Harmony Lodge No. 184.

The family requests that any memorials be directed to First United Methodist Church in Tiptonville; Harmony Lodge No. 184; or a charity of the donor's choice.
