MAHAR,  ELBRIDGE ALLAN "EB", 86, of Winter Park, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2006. He was born April 6, 1920 in Mendota, Illinois to Daniel and Ella Gillette Mahar. He served during WW II with the First Division, "The Big One". He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and fought throughout Europe for the duration of the war. He was also in battles in Northern Africa and Sicily, as well as the Battle of the Bulge. He received many awards and commendations. Eb had a successful career in Harness Racing for over 40 years. This took him to many parts of the country and he was privileged to witness some of the greatest Harness Races of our era, and work with legends in the industry. During this time he made many lasting friendships. He retired as the Paddock Judge for the Meadow Lands, East Rutherford, NJ in 1985. He will be remembered as an honest and honorable man who was always there when he was needed and will be greatly missed by all. Eb was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Patricia Doyle Mahar of Winter Park; two sisters, Wanda Boyle, of Mendota, IL, Lois Alexander of Champaign, IL; one brother, Donald Mahar of Mendota, IL; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 10AM in the chapel of the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 526 N. Park Avenue, Winter Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Hall of Fame of the Trotter, PO Box 590 Goshen, NY 10924. Arrangements are entrusted to COLLISON FAMILY FUNERAL HOMES AND CREMATORY, HOWELL BRANCH CHAPEL, 3806 Howell Branch Road, Winter Park. 407-678-4500.
