On September 5, 1864, he transferred to the band of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, 14th Corps at the rank of musician, and honorably discharged with his company sometime during June 1865.
He married Cecelia Haag and fathered Emma (b. 02/27/65), James (b. 09/26/66), William (b. 06/28/75, d. 07/18/90), Daisy Irene (b. 02/24/78 - married Homer Christian Benner), John (b. 05/12/79), and Anna (b. 09/??/84); he died in Lancaster from "senile paralysis." No obituary was found in any online newspaper archive, and some online family trees list his middle name as "Harry."
