Thomas B. Stearns, 75 years old, a retired farmer, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died at his home in the Cane Creek community near Jackson Tuesday afternoon. He had been ill since Sunday of influenza and pneumonia.
He was born at Millersville June 17, 1871, and for many years engaged in farming near Bernie. When he retired nine years ago he moved to Cape Girardeau, and then to Jackson last September.
Mr. Stearns was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Bernie.
He was married to Miss Katherine Hanners, who passed away on Feb. 15, 1941. He is survived by four children, W. O. Stearns and Mrs. Elmer Hartle of Bernie, Mrs. Anton F. Stortz of Perryville and Dayton Stearns of near Jackson; a sister, Mrs. Annie Limbaugh of Hayti and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Haman Funeral Home at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon, and burial will be at Sedgewickville.
