Samuel Henry Bendel was born

Samuel Henry Bendel was born to Thomas Isaac Bendel and Kate Bell Martin on 9 June 1881, in Clark Co., Kentucky.
Samuel was listed on the 1900 census living with his parents at 374 E Main St. in Columbus, Franklin Co., Ohio. He was employed as a bartender.
Samuel married Agnes Layola 'Lola' Lane in 1905. They had a daughter, Hazel, on the 3rd day of Aug 1905.
Samuel's family is found on the 1910, census living at 400 East Vine Street in Mount Vernon, Knox Co., Ohio. He is listed as a bartender in a restaurant. Lola's father, John Lane is living with them and is widowed. Sam was a member of Mt. Vernon, Ohio Lodge # 140 B.O.P.E. (Elks)
The Bendel's moved to Texas in approximately 1911. The reason for their move is unknown. Samuel may have followed his Uncle Joseph Bendel for business reasons.
On 12 September 1918, Samuel filled out a WWI Draft Registration Card. His birthdate is listed as 9 June 1882 and his age was 36. This date made him 1 year younger than his actual age of 37. He was living at 108 N. San Jacinto in San Antonio, Bexar Co., Texas. He was employed at Union Meat Company. He was medium height, stout build, with grey eyes, and he was bald.
In March 1918-June 1920, there was a flu pandemic. Approximately 500,000-675,000 people in the United States died. Samuel was a victim of this terrible virus. He suffered from the influenza for 4 days before it turned into pneumonia. After only 1 day with pneumonia, it claimed his life on the 19 October 1918 at the age of 37.
His death greatly affected his brother, Max 'Dow' Bendel. Sam and Dow were very close to each other. He always spoke about his brother and even called out Sam's name on his death bed, 57 years after Sam died.

Samuel Bendel, aged 35 years, for years a resident of this city, died at 3 o'cock Saturday afternoon at his home in San Antonio, Texas. He leaves his wife and one daughter, Hazel Bendel, and one brother, Max Bendel, of West Vine Street, this city.
The funeral was held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home and the body buried at San Antonio.

Lola and Hazel moved back to Ohio after Sam's death. They are found on the 1920 census living at 117 Oak Park Drive in Akron, Summit Co., Ohio. Lola is working as a Sales Lady in a department store. His daughter married Lee Louis Walworth and they moved back to San Antonio where he worked at Kelly Air Base as a civilian worker. Lola and Hazel are buried in Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio
