NOTE: Date of death on death certificate is the 20th but the 21st on his headstone

Fought in the Civil War the last six months March 6, 1865 to July 17, 1965 in the 45th Regt. Co A Inf. PA volunteers. His description was: blue eyes, brown hair, 5 feet 9 1/2 inches tall. He enlisted in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, PA on March 6, 1865. He was paid a bounty of $33.00 and promised $100.00 more to serve.
He spent most of that time at Siege of Petersburg, VA which was a series of over 250 + skirmishes that lasted over nine and a half months until Lee surrendered at Appomattox. He also got to march in Washington DC in a victory parade before being discharged.
Later he applied for Veteran's benefits saying he was injured in the war. This information could not be found but he claimed that "if lousy records were kept and all the doctor's were dead" that didn't stop his claim of injury.
He claimed to suffer from kidney disease and back pain which he got in the six months he was a soldier. He went before a Justice of the Peace with a statement from a man who had known him for 30 years and verified his claim saying he was entitled to an invalid pension. Although, I sent for his papers asking for the invalid status request, I could not find out if he received it.
He is listed as William W Lyons in these records but William J Lyons in Centre County. However, the pension application asked him to name his children so I knew it was the same person plus the marriage date and wife's name was the same.
