Note: Calvin's last name is also often spelled "Wolfe" (obits, newspaper articles, and the memorial marker for tornado victims).

Calvin and his wife, Clarice, were killed by an F5 tornado that swept through the Topeka, Kansas area on 8 June 1966. They were the first fatalities there, although another tornado also hit the town of Emmett, with fatalities, about an hour earlier.

There are several online stories about the tornado, which was up to a half-mile wide and was on the ground for almost 22 miles.

There is also a Find-a-Grave memorial to the victims of this tornado (Find A Grave Memorial# 6279575), and a memorial marker to all the victims, donated by Mr. and Mrs. Dana L. Hummer in memory of their daughter Nancy 1947-1966, in Section 96 of Topeka Cemetery, Shawnee County, Kansas.
