HOWERY Ernest Calvin, 90, of Norman, died Saturday, February 17, 1996, in Norman. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 1996, at the Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norman. Arrangements are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.

Mr. Howery was born August 13, 1905, Cleveland County, Oklahoma Territory, to Theodocia Teel and Tom Howery. He grew up on his father's homestead northeast of Noble, Oklahoma, and attended Independence School southeast of Norman. January 1, 1930, he married Ethel Rath. They had two boys, Raymond and Sherrill. Raymond was a jet pilot and was killed in England in 1955. Sherrill is a consulting geologist and resides in Norman with his wife, Mary Frances.
Mr. Howery was co-owner of the Campus Sport Shop for 11 years, owner of B. & H. Refrigeration; and worked for Fischer Construction Co. as superintendent for several years. His main interest was his farm. He loved his cattle and he liked to see things grow. He was a member of the Cleveland County Cattlemen's Association of which he served as vice president of the Central District of the Association. He was a charter member and past president of the Cleveland County Sportsmen Club, and a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting and trap shooting. He won many awards in that field.

He leaves behind his wife, Ethel, of 66 years; his son, Sherrill and his wife Mary Frances, of Norman; 2 grandsons, Mark and his wife Kathy, of Norman, and Todd, of Newport Beach, California; a great-grandchild due in May; a sister, Bessie Davenport and her husband Roy, of Norman; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 3 sisters, 1 half-brother, and 1 half-sister. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 3545 NW 58th St., Oklahoma City, OK 73112.
