His father, William was the son of Norris and Mary Jane Claypool Metcalf and his mother Abigail was the daughter of Evan and Abigail Netherton Morgan. He was married in Grundy County to Flora Elmira Emhuff on Sept 1, 1875. (Marriage license states his first as, Edward) Two children were born to this union prior to 1880. They left Grundy County and settled in Oklahoma. According to a 1907 census they were living in the Wolf Indian Territory, Seminole, OK.
At the time of his death in 1909, he was survived by his wife, Flora and 4 children; Bessie, Frank, John and Viola.
