Donald J. Bowman, 79, of Catlin, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at his home.

Don was born Sept. 13, 1929 in Burr Oak, Kansas, the son of Herb and Mae LaRue Bowman. He married Betty Gibson Jan. 24, 1954.
She survives as well as two sons, Brent Bowman of Catlin and Brian (Terry) Bowman of Hendersonville, Tennessee; one sister, Margaret Gerard of Arizona and one granddaughter, Lauren Bowman. He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Don had been a heavy equipment operator and served in the United States Navy.

He was a member of the Catlin United Methodist Church, Catlin Masonic Lodge and Danville Consistory and was a 50-year Mason. He was a member of the Ansar Shrine Eastern Illinois Shrine and had transported children to many Shriner's Hospitals over the years.

He coached Little League baseball and enjoyed fishing with his friend, Benny. Don and Betty enjoyed traveling. His granddaughter, Lauren, was his great delight and he always attended any activities she was involved in. Don's family always knew whatever they needed he would be there to help.
