Elmore Callaway, son of Job Callaway and Susan Randall, was born in North Carolina, supposedly Anson County, but possibly Stanly County. He came to Georgia in 1837 on his way to Florida to fight in the Seminole Indian War. He fell in love with, and later married, Samantha Mariah Hodges.

[Please note that Elmore's parents were Job Callaway, son of Isaac Callaway and Elizabeth Arnold. Susan Randall is also known by Susannah Randle. Many have confused Job Callaway with one of his relatives, Job Callaway, who married Mary Polly Milner. These are quite separate individuals. Job Callaway and Susannah Randle are buried in Stanly County, NC. They married in Montgomery Co, NC in 1810. Job (or Jobe) Callaway and Mary Polly Milner moved to Wilkes Co. GA. This Job was the son of John Callaway and Bethany Arnold. John (Job's father) and Isaac (our Job's father) were brothers / sons of Edward Callaway. John and Isaac also had a brother named Job Callaway (Sr.), and Job Sr. had a son named Job. Neither Job Sr. nor Job Jr had sons named "Elmore". In addition, neither John Callaway nor his son Job had sons named "Elmore". Several family trees on Ancestry have placed our Elmore Callaway with the incorrect parents and siblings. PLEASE inform them of their errors..and contact me if you need additional information. Thanks!]

After searching for Elmore and Samantha's marriage date for a number of years, I have finally located where the license was issued. They were married 16 Jan 1846 in Chatham County, Georgia.

Elmore Callaway is the patriarch of the Callaway family in the Collins-Manassas North Tattnall area. One of his sons was a Baptist preacher, and another was very active in the local church of his father. Elmore and Samantha were active members of Anderson's Primitive Baptist Church, now the location of "Old" Anderson's PBC.

It is believed all their children were born in Tattnall County, Ga., USA. Their children are:
1. Mary Ann Callaway (b. 28 Feb 1844; d. 18 Jun 1918 in Liberty Co, Ga.; Married 1860 to Andrew Jackson Yeomans, abt. 1868 to a Mr. Nichols, and abt. 1870 to Eli Moody.)
