Larry was the 3rd of 5 children born to D.E. Burgess & Wanda Juanita Evans Burgess. Larry & wife Carolyn Cox Burgess have 1 son Eric.

Larry Edward Burgess, 103 Woodside Court, died Wednesday (Oct. 2, 2003) in the Johnson City Medical Center.

He was a native of Newport, Tenn., and had lived in the Washington County area since 1973. He was a son of Dennis E. and Juanita Evans Burgess , Newport, Tenn.

Mr. Burgess had attended East Tennessee State University. He served in the U.S. Army during the VietNam War. He worked in construction and maintenance for several area businesses.

Mr. Burgess was a member of Gray United Methodist Church, the Gray Ruritan and had volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 240.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Carolyn C. Burgess ; his son, Eric Burgess , of the home; three brothers, Bobby Burgess , Newport, Jerry Burgess , Hermitage, and Bill Burgess , Knoxville; one sister, Teresa Morris, Dallas, Texas; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday in the Mt. Home National Cemetery. Rev. Ralph Kidd will officiate. Those attending are invited to meet the family at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Terry Miller, Bob Gagne, John Edens, Clifford Page, David Styles, Doug Porteous, and Eric Patton. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Harris, Brandon Good, Tanner Harris, Brandon Hite, and Billy Leonard.
A memorial service will be held at Gray United Methodist Church immediately following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Gray UMC Building Fund, 2108 Oak St., Gray, Tenn. 37615.
Arrangements are by Morris-Baker Funeral Home, 2001 Oakland Ave., Johnson City, Tenn. 37601.
