The Late Mr. Henry Schulken. We briefly noted in yesterday's Messenger the death at 1 o'clock yesterday morning of Mr. Henry Schulken, Wilmington's oldest German, and a gentleman highly esteemed in our community. He died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. O. M. Fillyaw, on Fourth and Red Cross streets. Mr. Schulken was born in Blumenthal, Kingdom of Hanover, Germany, and was aged 81 years, 6 months and 9 days. He came to America when in the 22nd year of his age, first locating at Charleston, S. C, where he married. He came to Wilmington in 1846, and for the last fifty years this has been his home. Before the civil war he was a member of the German Volunteers and during the war he entered the confederate army, serving as a member of the senior reserves until he became exempt by age. He has been a merchant of our city for many years and was a member of Grace M. E. Church South. He had six children of whom two daughters and one son survive him Mrs. O. M. Fillyaw, Mrs. E. VanLaer, and Mr. C. H. Schulken, who have the deepest sympathy of their friends and acquaintances in the hour of their bereavement. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 5 o'clock at Grace Church, and the interment will be in Oakdale, cemetery.
