John R. Crumpler NORFOLK - John Robert Crumpler, son of Frank Alan and Eunice Crumpler, died Feb. 22, 2009, in Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center. Mr. Crumpler was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Bishop Crumpler; sister, Jenice Stevens; and brothers, Vernon and Frank Crumpler. Born Jan. 1, 1915, Mr. Crumpler is survived by his sons, John Robert Crumpler Jr. and wife Sarah, and Samuel Alan Crumpler and wife Penny; grandchildren, John Robert Crumpler III, Katherine Crumpler Rocca, Benjamin Chapman Crumpler, Laura Ann Crumpler and Christopher John Crumpler; and five great- grandchildren. Mr. Crumpler, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was also a veteran of the Civil Conservation Corps. He was a member of the past Worshipful Master of Elizabeth Masonic Lodge No. 34, Khedive Shrine Center and a lifelong member of Park Place United Methodist Church. He had fond memories of growing up in the Atlantic City neighborhood of Norfolk. An avid golfer and traveler, Mr. Crumpler was devoted to his family and will be greatly missed. The family sincerely appreciates the generosity and kindness of Betty Lawrence and her family and the staff at Province Place. A funeral will held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel. Burial will follow with military honors at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Online condolence may be offered to the family through www.hdoliver.com.
