DIED YESTERDAY
Lewis Winkler, age sixty-nine, resident of Liberty township for twenty-eight years, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Kuhn., in Union township. Mr. Winkler had taken ill several days ago. He was found by members of his family on the floor of one of the rooms of his home. His condition had been critical since that time.
Mr. Winkler was a son of Lewis and Emily J. White Winkler and was born in Estill County, Kentucky, February 17, 1856. He was married June 6, 1879, in Shelby County, to Anna Devening. Mrs. Winkler died August 7, 1899. Mr. Winkler was a member of the Tribe of Red Men of this city. Members of the order will take part in the funeral services.
He was a farmer by occupation, and during the twenty-eight years of his residence in Liberty township, had followed that occupation, with the exception of recent years he had lived in Waldron. He had been making his home with his daughter since spring.
Mr. Winkler leaves five daughters, Mrs. Fannie Martin, of Richmond; Mrs. Winnie Inlow, of Waldron; Mrs. Virgil Schaffer, Richmond; Mrs. Myrtle Kuhn, of Union township, and Mrs. Maude Kuhn of Liberty township; two sons, Art B. Winkler, of Kokomo, and Harry Winkler, of Liberty township; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Oglesby, Mrs. Martha Kirkham and Mrs. Mary Adams, and five brothers, George, Joseph, Arch, Guilford and Oda Winkler. Fifteen grandchildren also survive. One son, Aaron Winkler, died December 3, 1924.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. The Rev. C.B. Atkinson, pastor of the Waldron Baptist Church and the Rev. W.T. Kettlehut, pastor of the Zion Evangelical Church, will officiate. Burial will be made in the church cemetery, R.T. Stewart in charge.
