James Dawson, son of Pearl Marshall Dawson and the late Monroe Dawson was born December 11, 1938 in Thayer and departed this life July 28, 1977 in St. John's hospital in Springfield, Mo. at the age of 38 years. He was united in marriage on March 12, 1961 to Jo Ann Griffin.She survives him at the home in Springfield. Also surviving are mother, Mrs. Pearl Dawson, Thayer; one brother Joe Dawson, Chicago, Ill., and four sisters: Artie Cozort, Thayer Gwen Rice, Overland Park Kansas, June Mitchell, Dearborn, Mo., and Ola Lou Kilburn, Kansas City, Mo. He was of the Pentecostal Faith and had worked as a conductor for the Frisco Railroad for 20 years. He was a member of the UTU of the Frisco Railroad, and served with the Railroad Battalion Enlisted Reserves Army. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 31, 1977 at the Carter Chapel with Rev. Ben Meeks officiating. Interment was at Thayer Cemetery under direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer. Active pallbearers were Jim Sanders, Jim McCradic, Bill Barnett, Wayne Rhoades, Steve McElhaney and Joe Frommel. Honorary pallbearers were Sherman Carroll, Bob Tyree, Gerald Baker, Scott Crotts, Hulan Patterson, and Curtis Buehler. Bale Huddleston was soloist.
