Opal Ola Lou Kilburn, 77, of Olathe, Kan., passed away surrounded by her loving family Saturday, August, 9, 2014. She will be forever remembered as a devoted wife, loving mom, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt and friend. Opal was born March 3, 1937, in Thayer, Mo., to James and Zora (Marshall) Dawson. She was an excellent cook who thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids. Along with her homemaking, she also worked for Southwestern Bell, AT&T, Napa Auto Parts and the Olathe School District. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Kilburn was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James L. Kilburn, Sr., her parents, two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her three children, Jim Kilburn, Jr., Deborah Hulen and J.D. Kilburn. Opal is also survived by one brother, Jon Dawson. Left behind to cherish her memory are her nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 920 South Alta Lane, Olathe. Burial will follow in Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Mo. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered at www.McGilley-Frye.com.
